Marine Zero, a leading innovator in vessel power and propulsion systems, shore power and charging solutions, and a trusted consultancy in the maritime clean energy sector, has appointed Dr. Derek McGlashan to its board as a non-executive director.
An eminent sustainability consultant with over 25 years of experience in regulatory and operational roles within ports, sustainability, and renewable energy, McGlashan brings an extensive knowledge base, industry insight, and a strong network to the Marine Zero team.
As the founder of Saltire Sustainability Limited, McGlashan has been instrumental in advancing the decarbonisation of the maritime sector, offering strategic support to a diverse range of clients from start-ups to global multinationals in maritime and other sectors.
McGlashan’s expertise spans energy efficiency and decarbonisation as well as consenting strategy, regulatory compliance, and ESG materiality and reporting. In 20 years with Forth Ports he implemented ISPS across the Scottish ports and was the group’s lead on energy, environment, sustainability, safety, and ESG, driving significant operational and culture change.
In recent years, McGlashan has collaborated with major UK maritime players, including the Port of London, Port of Aberdeen, and Port of Stornoway to drive safety and sustainability initiatives. He also serves as a non-executive director at the Port of Cromarty Firth and the Forth Estuary Forum. In 2023, he was one of just 12 ‘private sector pioneers’ who were listed in ENDS Report’s top 100 environmental professionals.
Tim Munn, managing director at Marine Zero said: “We are thrilled to welcome Derek to our board. His comprehensive expertise in sustainability and maritime operations, and his commitment to a greener future for the maritime industry will play a crucial role as we continue to lead the sector’s transition towards zero emissions.”
