Marine Zero were asked by David Scott Marine to provide an outline design for a power & propulsion system for their Coastal Hydrogen Transport Vessel and to highlight typical challenges when designing a hydrogen powered vessel.
The purpose of the report was to identify the requirements and the design challenges needed to be addressed in the design of the vessel. The vessel itself will be fitted with 2 off propulsion units driven from a hybrid electric power and propulsion system based on a DC grid topology with the primary energy source being supplied from hydrogen fuel cells and a supplementary Lithium-ion based energy storage system to provide low power and in-port operations and load stabilising functions.
